Charlie Brown, there is a Great Pumpkin!
Imagine my dismay when two days ago I realized Halloween fell on my creative writing class night, with Ed out of town. You might say, “So? Turn the lights off. Leave the house.”
But I couldn’t do that. Because, for the past three years I’ve worked tirelessly to get trick-or-treaters to walk to the corner of Kildee to our house without a sidewalk, street dimly lit. Last year, Avy and I stood outside waving kids our way, me yelling, “candy, candy.” Ed thought I was nuts.
So, today I made an un-manned candy stand. And with the help of Marilyn Beery Devick and the fabulous-student-renter-gals next door, who all pointed tricker-treaters to our house, I came home to a bucket with only two pieces of candy left.
It had 47 when I drove off to class.
This is why Avy and I believe in The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Halloween miracles abound.
