Today the Iowa State University Women’s Club held their annual spring luncheon. Those who attended were treated to a wonderful program featuring operatic bass-baritone, Simon Estes. An Iowa native, and Iowa Treasure, Simon was born in Centerville, and has sung world-wide in front of popes, presidents, and queens. In addition to sharing his life story, Simon shared how he lives his life – by practicing forgiveness and kindness. And, he told the audience how someone once told him that telling people his successes is not bragging. Especially when singing to notables such as Nelson Mandela is true.
So taking a cue from Simon, I am proud to announce that today I accepted the gavel to serve as the 103rd president of the Iowa State University Women’s Club. This long-standing women’s club’s mission is to welcome and involve women of various interests, ages, and experiences; provide opportunities for individual growth and enrichment; support scholarship and community service; and grow and develop as an organization.
During the past three years I have been a member, I have met wonderful women, and I am honored for the opportunity to serve them and the organization.
